Living in Morocco

Morocco is emerging as a popular, exotic base for nomads wanting close proximity to Europe (Spain is just a ferry ride away) combined with a low cost of living.

Visa-Free Entry (Tourist Route)

There is no specific Digital Nomad Visa.

• The Standard Play: Citizens of the US, UK, EU, and Canada can enter Morocco visa-free for up to 90 days. Many nomads stay for 3 months, leave for a weekend (to Spain or Gibraltar), and re-enter to reset the clock.
• The Extension: You can technically apply for a visa extension at the local police precinct (Préfecture de Police), but it requires extensive paperwork (proof of income, local bank statements, lease) and is frequently denied without a valid local reason (like marriage or local employment).

The "Carte de Séjour" (Residency Card)

If you want to stay long-term and rent an apartment legally.

• The "To Set Up a Business" Route: You can set up a local LLC (SARL). However, dealing with Moroccan corporate bureaucracy is Kafkaesque, and the taxes are high.
• The "Retiree/Passive Income" Route: Easier to obtain if you can prove a steady, guaranteed monthly income from abroad, though applying this to remote freelance work depends heavily on the mood of the immigration officer processing your file.
