e-Tourist Visa

The vast majority of nomads enter on an e-Visa.

• The Reality: For US and UK citizens, you can often get a 1-year or 5-year multiple-entry e-Tourist visa.
• The Catch: Each continuous stay is strictly limited to 90 days (or 180 days for US/UK/Canada citizens). You cannot engage in "business" or local employment on a tourist visa. While remote work on a laptop is generally ignored, you are technically in a gray area.

Employment Visa

If you want to work legally in India for an Indian company, the requirements are strict to protect the local labor market.

• The Salary Floor: You must earn a highly specialized salary of at least $25,000 USD per year (unless you are a language teacher or ethnic cook). This is designed to prevent companies from importing cheap foreign labor.
