- The Address Card (Lakcímkártya): This is the crucial document you get when registering your apartment. You need it to open a local bank account or sign a postpaid phone contract.
- Banks: OTP Bank is the largest, but Raiffeisen and Erste Bank are also popular. Customer service in English can be hit or miss.
- HUF Volatility: Hungary does not use the Euro; it uses the Forint (HUF). The HUF has been highly volatile and generally depreciating against the EUR and USD. It is financially wise to keep your savings in EUR/USD (e.g., in Revolut or Wise) and only convert to HUF as needed for daily expenses.
