If you wish to live in mainland Norway as a freelancer, you must apply as a Self-Employed Person.

• Requirements: You must prove that your business will establish a local presence in Norway and bring an economic benefit to the country. This means having Norwegian clients. Simply working from a laptop for a US tech company will result in a rejection.
• The Svalbard Loophole: The remote archipelago of Svalbard is an entirely visa-free zone. Anyone from any country can live and work there indefinitely without a visa, provided they can financially support themselves and secure housing. However, it is located in the high Arctic, plagued by polar bears, and experiences total darkness for 4 months a year.

Skilled Worker Visa

The easiest route is being hired by a Norwegian company. The minimum salary requirement is around 480,000 NOK (for bachelor's degrees) to 516,000 NOK (for master's degrees).
