- The RIB (Relevé d'Identité Bancaire): This is a small document containing your bank details. In France, the RIB is your financial identity. You cannot get an apartment, a phone plan, or health insurance without providing a RIB.
- Opening an Account: Traditional banks (BNP Paribas, Société Générale) will demand massive dossiers, including your employment contract, utility bills, and previous tax returns. Many simply refuse Americans due to FATCA.
- Fintech Solutions: Qonto (for freelancers/business) and BoursoBank (formerly Boursorama) are the most modern options, but you still need a French address to activate them.
