Open a Bank Account in Denmark

Denmark is a virtually cashless society.

• The CPR Number: The CPR (Civil Registration Number) is the key to Danish society. You get it upon registering at the International House or local municipality. Without it, you cannot open a bank account, get a phone number, or access healthcare.
• MitID: This is the national digital ID app. You use it to log into your bank, the tax authority (SKAT), and to sign rental contracts.
• MobilePay: The Danish equivalent of Venmo. Every flea market, food truck, and friend group uses MobilePay. You must have a Danish bank account (like Danske Bank or Nordea) and a CPR to use it.
